How to win the $10k main event

So you want to hear how to win the 10k main event like Joe Cada from someone who has never won it. There are lots of people with the knowledge of how to win the main event. In fact you could still win it without being a very good player.

I have said it before and I will say it again, having guts and balls will take you a long way. You don’t need to be a CardRunners member or a top pro to win the 10k main event. During the early stages I would go looking for the dead money when the blinds are small compared to the starting stack.

This means looking for opportunities and watching the table like a hawk to see what everyone is doing. There will be tons of dead money around from all of the online qualifiers. A few months ago I was looking at some of the qualifiers on pokerloco and the quality was pretty terrible.

These are the players who are going to be taking their seats in the main event come July. These are the players who are either going to be paying the nuts off big time with mediocre hands in deep stacked situations or they are going to be rocking up trying to cash and waiting for big hands.

The situation is that many players will have got into this event for a few bucks, Moneymaker won it having invested $40 in 2003. So getting back around $8k-$9k by cashing in the main event is a serious return on investment.

What you have to remember is that many players, maybe several thousand will make this their goal as what they will return will be a substantial return on investment. You should be able to get a feel as to what certain players will be doing. In essence then this will be no different to cash games be it live or in online poker.

Will talk more about tournament poker in next post

see you soon
