A few years ago I played SNG’s quite seriously for about four to five months. I think as I recall I played something like around 700 of them and returned around 15% ROI. Times have changed of course and the games have become seriously tougher recently. Back when I played them, you really didn’t need to know ICM to do well and a good solid strategy of playing tight early and loosening up later on was sound even at levels up to $200.
All that rapidly changed and now the $200 level is populated by some of the best SNG players in online poker. Today’s video is a short one and probably comes across as rather dull but don’t be fooled. SNGWIZ is a fantastic piece of software and worth it just for the simulation screens where you will get a good feel about ICM play after doing a few hundred hand examples.
Understanding ICM is important now even at the lower levels but I am recommending this software because I have used it personally although strangely enough I didn’t use it when I played SNG’s seriously but if I had then I am sure that my ROI would have been higher. Although do be advised that my ROI was taken from a period where SNG’s were far softer than what they are today and also 700 tournaments is still a small sample size and the ROI may not have been reflective of a true return.
The video is short and sort of dull sounding and I almost didn’t put it on the site for that reason but I felt a duty to inform all low-stakes and even mid-stakes SNG players of this piece of software. I still feel that low-stakes SNG’s can be beaten with a good grounding in solid play and ICM. I also recommend reading Collin Moshman’s book as well.
This guy is a true SNG specialist (far better than I ever was) so give the book a read and even though there are other equally good books (Phil Shaw’s book for example), it is still worth a read.
See you soon
