Don’t ever be dead money

I have had a good month betting on the Euro’s and on Wimbledon and am looking forward to getting back into the saddle again in a poker playing sense. A few people have asked me why I haven’t gone to Las Vegas for the 2012 WSOP…..I get asked this every year and my answer is the same….value!!!

Huge tournaments with huge buy-ins and huge fields. I really think that you do need to lean towards gambling to go deep in these events and that is difficult to do for a cash game grinder. There are some players who can pull it off but not me. I just feel that I would never amass a big enough stack to win one of these $1500 events.

That is a huge 15 buy-ins at my usual NL100 and that is before we even consider all of the other expenses with making the trip. My golden rule in gambling is that you should never gamble on the fact that you are +EV or not and as the late great Amarillo Slim Preston once said……”guessing is for losers”.

I have been looking around of late for a new poker site because as you probably know by now…..I move around a lot. I have been looking into Lock Poker of late after a tip off from a couple of people. Like I said in the title….”don’t ever be dead money”. I have twenty years experience as a poker player and ten as a pro but even I still think that I would be close to dead money in some of these events.

There are just too many players to wade through….too many players with a gambling style and mix into the fray the top tournament players who don’t mind the early bust outs and the remaining 20% of the field will likely feature players that fit this category.

I need to know that I am +EV otherwise I am just not interested. In fact flying thousands of miles away from home is something I would never do unless I was either going on holiday or was certain of making money and the WSOP fits into neither. So watch this space with regards to what I find on the cash games at Lock Poker because this is where you can make money. Give me a certain $100 over $150k pie in the sky anyday and chasing rainbows is not very high on my list of things to do.
